Leonard Shen started this petition to City Council of Saratoga

On September 11 the Saratoga, CA Planning Commission will vote to implement a FCC regulation which would allow new wireless cell towers to be installed—UP TO 50 FEET TALL and as close as EVERY 100 METERS—throughout Saratoga neighborhoods. The City Council will vote on this later in September or October.

But that FCC regulation has been challenged in court by the US Conference of Mayors, representing over 1,400 municipalities— including Saratoga.  Our own Cong. Anna Eshoo has introduced a bill in Congress to repeal the FCC regulation.

The Planning Commission and City Council should await the outcome of that court case in the next several months, and then carefully develop a revised Ordinance to appropriately regulate 5G cell towers.

More than 15 CA cities (and many others across the US) have already passed ordinances to carefully manage these cell towers. The risks posed by these new towers:

1) potential health effects, 2) impact on property value—a 2014 survey found 94% would pay less for, and 79% would refuse outright, to buy or rent property near a cell tower, 3) higher energy usage and costs for consumers, 4) cyber security and privacy issues, 5) costs of maintenance/oversight passed on to cities and consumers, 6) loss of local control over what technologies we want in light of associated risks.

Please write to oppose any hasty ordinances to install cell towers into your neighborhood!
