Why this petition matters

The City Council voted to submit a grant to the state to demolish the Crescent Street Bridge. The grant says it will demolish the bridge and remove it from the records of the DOT, essentially remove the crossing from ever receiving federal funds again.

We humbly ask the Mayor and Flandreau's City Council to take back their vote and NOT submit this grant on July 1.

"WE" are the people who work for the Flandreau Indian School, a Federal Native-American boarding school, which uses this bridge as a direct link to the town.

"WE" are people who want a community discussion about the bridge and what happens to it.

"WE" are former students of FIS who know and understand the importance of this bridge.

"WE" are community members who want to see a plan for economic development including the bridge, the dam, the fishing, the bike trails, a visitor's center celebrating the History of Flandreau!

"WE" are members of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe who would appreciate having a say in this.

"WE" are people who live north of the bridge who have never been contacted.

"WE" are the people who want our voices heard.

Pease, stop submitting this grant and work with US in equitable ways to determine the future of the bridge.
