By far the fastest growing sport in the United States is Pickleball.  Over the past several of years cities around the U.S., especially the Wichita Area, have scrambled to find enough places to keep up with the growing demand.  Currently, Andover has very limited court availability and with limited court hours at the Andover Community Center and the YMCA.  There are no dedicated Pickleball courts in the City of Andover.

Meanwhile, residents near Cornerstone Park (21st St. & Andover Rd.) have long lamented the wasted space of land at the Cornerstone Park.  Currently, there is only 1 gazebo, 1 playground, and 1 basketball court.  The rest of the land at Cornerstone park remains unused.

The City of Andover would be well served to get ahead of the explosive growth of Pickleball and take advantage of currently unused city property to construct up to 4 Pickleball courts at Cornerstone Park. Putting dedicated Pickleball courts in a public park would position Andover as a place where Andover pickleballers know they are welcome, instead of making them drive into Wichita to spend their time and money.  At the same time, it shows all Andover residents that the City of Andover will continue to bring forth projects that enhance our great city.
