Say No to Blondell Commons started this petition to City Council Member Mark Gjonaj and

Stop the rezoning of 2 Blocks of Blondell Avenue and the demapping of part of Fink Avenue to enable Blondell Commons.  The Development is too large for Blondell Avenue.  The project is 6 buildings that are 9 stories high on a small one way street.

City Planning Department determined no significant impacts are anticipated, and this Blondell Common project is moving forward to City Council Vote.

The Environmental Assessment Statement (EAS) is Narrow and Incomplete.  There is significant negative impact on the Westchester Square District and its neighbors in both Bronx Community Board 11 and 10.

(1). New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Phase II findings were NOT included in the EAS.  Nor has the Applicant submitted any Remedial Action Plan to NYSDEC.  This site is a Brownfield site. Not only is this site unsafe for the non union workers but also for residents.  Do we need any more cancer cluster sites in NYS?

(2) Per EAS Report, the local school are overcapacity 143 Percent.  Local children are either bused long distances or jammed in the few empty seats in underperforming local schools.  How can adding more children in a overcapacity school district   not have significant negative impact?  The children in the district are denied a quality education and a fair opportunity for a successful future.  No development should be built until schools are built first.

(3) The majority of the annual income for this Blondell Common rentals are above the area's Median Income level of 45K.  One studio at 120% AMI is for income levels up to 87k for a monthly rent of $1,800 for a 550 square feet space.  As we witnessed in other parts of the city,  this unaffordable "affordable" development has contributed and hasten gentrification and displacement of long time residents.
