Re: Councillor Ana Bailao's Proposed Pedestrian Crosswalk on Lansdowne Avenue

Honorable Members of City Council,

We are opposed to the installation of a new pedestrian crosswalk on Lansdowne Avenue because it will displace up to EIGHT ESSENTIAL PARKING SPACES. Permit parking is at a premium due in part to the large number of properties that house multiple tenants. In addition as you are no doubt aware, neighboring Earlscourt Park is a hub of events and festivities which often attract hundreds of eager participants from across the GTA, and their vehicles place further demands on direly inadequate parking. There are no designated parking areas provided to attendees of events within the park.

Clearly Earlscourt Park activities are grossly impinging on the residents of Lansdowne Avenue. This issue needs to be addressed before a new crosswalk is even considered, as it will only exacerbate the problem. In essence, we need PROPER PLANNING!

We realize the need for safety and suggest an alternative to a crosswalk such as PHOTO RADAR.

Furthermore, we were not notified of this proposal until August 12th, 2020 and to my knowledge the majority of residents were not consulted on this important issue. The loss of even a few parking spaces will be very DISRUPTIVE and DAMAGING to our community.

Sincerely,

Donald Turnbull
