Byron, IL current city ordinance bans backyard chickens. Below is the proposed change

PETITION BACKGROUND
Hundreds of cities large and small across the United States have legalized the keeping of backyard hens on city lots of all sizes. Model legislation limits the numbers of chickens, and allows for hens only because of the noise of roosters. Hens are quieter than many dogs, do not leave the property like outdoor cats and any potential nuisances such as flies can be easily mitigated by proper husbandry. Backyard chickens do not pose a danger to commercial operations, and the birds provide fresh, nutritious eggs in accordance with Illinois's noble heritage of self-sufficiency and farming. We are asking that Byron join other cities in allowing us to keep hens in our backyards. We ask that the city put in place the kinds of sensible ordinances already in place across the country, so our citizens can enjoy the benefits of healthy eggs from happy chickens.

PETITION TO CHANGE CITY ORDINANCE BANNING CHICKENS:
I support changing the city ordinance to allow residents of Byron, Illinois to own up to 5 hens with no roosters, in an appropriately sized yard, while observing humane animal husbandry practices.
By signing this petition I affirm that I am a resident of the city of Byron and support backyard chickens.
