Stop using Single-Use Plastic

Stop using Single-Use Plastic
Why this petition matters
Human health is being jeopardised by plastic waste, and marine animals such as whales and sea turtles are being harmed at unprecedented rates. The problem started in the boardrooms of major multinational corporations when they chose to dump goods wrapped in single-use, non-recyclable plastic in regions where there was no infrastructure to handle them. We won't be able to recycle our way out of this mess.
Plastic has not been recycled in over 90% of cases.
A straw in our iced coffee, a plastic bag to hold our takeout, a candy bar wrapper: each seems innocuous on its own. These modern conveniences are so popular — and so easily discarded — that we barely notice them. However, single-use plastics have a high environmental cost that we will be paying for centuries.
This petition is meant to increase awareness regarding this global issue, and here are some of the simplest way to reduce your plastic consumption in your lives -
- Always carry a reusable bag when shopping.
- Cook more often, to reduce your use of plastic-heavy takeout containers.
- Buy bigger packs - 5 L/KG instead of 1 L/KG - for items such as cleaning agents, oils, flours, etc
- Avoid plastic wrap altogether by storing leftovers in reusable containers such as steel or glass.
- Buy a metal or bamboo reusable straw.
- Buy milk in glass bottles instead of plastic packets.
- Carry your water bottle instead of buying water outside.
