IT'S TIME FOR A CHANGE- PLEASE SIGN THIS VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE
This petition is a collection of signatures indicating that you as voters, parents, students, or employees have "NO CONFIDENCE" in Superintendent Ted Alejandre's ability to perform his duties in an ethical manner.
For the past several years we have seen an enormous increase on litigation against special education children in the San Bernardino County. Here's what has happened under Alejandre's regime:
The County Superintendent has used shadow agencies such as the West End Special Education Local Plan Area (WESELPA) as his personal piggy bank to hand out contracts to law firms, some of which contribute to his campaign.
WESELPA spent almost $3 million dollars suing children with disabilities in
2020.
Fontana Unified School District allocated $300,000 for law firms for
2020-2021.

The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools (SBCSS) is being sued by families of students with disabilities who allege abuse by county employees and SBCSS's dereliction of duty. SBCSS hired a team of lawyers paid for with our tax dollars to defend the indefensible abuse of disabled students. SBCSS argued that he was not responsible because the abuse (allegations involved physical abuse) was not sexual. In A.M. v. SBCSS, a federal Judge told SBCSS that he was indeed responsible for the actions of his employees.
SBCSS uses tax dollars to make a brand name for himself. His communications department's annual budget is over $1 Million. First, we see his name plastered in the SBCSS website, we see his name on buildings, diplomas, and even checks that come from SBCSS. He uses all these tactics to campaign his name at taxpayer's expense. That's $1 Million in publicly funded propaganda.
The reality is very different. In San Bernardino County programs:
* 93% of students can't read at grade level
* Lawyers, not teachers control the education system
* Contracts with employees are delayed and according to representatives, negotiated in bad faith.
*
SBCSS has also created secret organizations such as the San Bernardino Advocates for Better Schools (SANDABS) so that he can operate like the wizard behind the curtain. SANDABS uses SBCSS staff and resources, is funded with county dollars and school district dollars but does not allow the public to comment at their meetings. SANDABS has two lobbyists who take direction from SBCSS.
The California Department of Education found SBCSS guilty of allowing the use of funds designated to help minority students, for law enforcement purposes-- perpetuating the school to prison pipeline. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Public Advocates, the Inland Congregations United for Change (ICUC) and the Council for Prophetic Engagement (COPE) filed a complaint with the State alleging SBCSS failed in his duty to oversee $300 Million dollars.
As an elected official, Ted Alejandre had sworn to protect the Constitution, yet he has blocked members of the public from his Facebook account. We believe it is time for the Superintendent to shape up or give room for a new person that will have the children's best interest.
