Forests are crucial for any and all living, breathing beings.

Most of us are not aware that from 2000 to 2012, Malaysia has the highest percentage of deforestation. Malaysia's total forest loss during this period of time was 14.4% of its forested land in 2000. Now, more than half of the country is forested, which has affected us in the worst way possible.

December of 2021, Malaysia were hit with flash floods, that ruined and took so many lives, not just humans but also animals. This sequence of flood disasters, according to the ASEAN Disaster Information Network, is the worst flood catastrophe in Malaysia for 2021, with more than 60,000 people relocated in 430 emergency evacuation centres across eight states.

One of the primary causes is deforestation. When forests are destroyed, rain falls directly to the land rather than being absorbed by the trees. This forces rains to drift down at a rapid rate into waterways, causing streams to be unable to retain such a huge quantity of water in such a brief span of time, ending in floods.

It's time to put an end to this life-threatening and destructive activity.
