“We citizens of Hyderabad have to come together and stop Musi river from becoming the next Citarum River(one of the most polluted rivers) and harming the health and survival of our future generations because of the  pollution caused by sewage waste by  demanding the method of wastewater treatment and plastic interceptors for conservation of this river.”

Musi river is one of the most polluted rivers in not only hyderabad but India.It flows from Ranga Reddy district to Nalgonda district.It has been completely contaminated as approximately 600 million liters sewage waste is discharged directly into the river everyday in hyderabad city.It has turned into a gutter and a waste disposal river due to the industrial waste,plastic,garbage curated by people is dumped into Musi river.The river has become slow and dry due to all the sewage.A body of rock  holds groundwater in the river it is known as aquifers are getting contaminated.Due to this fresh and clean water is not reaching the houses. The river is already really polluted and it will only get worse if keep ignoring this issue.The river is so polluted with sewage waste and plastic It is hyderabad’s environment negatively. The water is not clean so the drinking water has to be brought from different places which are far away and cost a lot of money.The citizens living  near the river are suffering as the water is causing health issues.They have joint pains skin infections and are exposed to several diseases.The pharmaceutical companies are releasing drugs into the river which is hazardous to  citizens health as  antibiotic-resistant bacteria  are developed in humans .The pollution is affecting the aquatic ecosystem as well the species present in the water are dying due to no fresh water present.A study was conducted by civil engineers of indian institute of technology of hyderabad the study reported that musi river has high concentrations of ciprofloxacin, ofloxacin, and norfloxacin were ‘frequently’ detected in the Musi water.

Now is the time to take action,We have to cooperate and reduce the waste in the river.The first step we can take with use of technology and  demand the government to add plastic interceptors in the river as it is a scalable solution for preventing plastic from entering the river.Residents living near the water have to be little more careful while consuming the water.Another scientific and technological step is  Wastewater treatment should be conducted. It will make the water safe and clean.It is low cost and beneficial to the environment. 

As citizens of Hyderabad it is our duty to create a safe and healthy environment for future citizens.So let's safe musi river by taking sustainable,effective steps.Safeing musi river is beneficial for all of us so let's come together as a society and save this river.
