With Omicron spreading like wildfire, it is imperative that Valparaiso High School switches to remote learning. Young children are being sent to school as early as 4 days after testing positive, legally attending school while having Covid-19. All students are at risk, not only putting themselves in a position to catch the virus, but to spread it to their family and the immunocompromised community as well. With vaccinations not being required and the school system rarely enforcing masks and wearing them correctly, our city is putting us at an immense risk. Cases are only rising, and the students need a break. We are VACCINATED students at Valparaiso High School who have both been exposed to the virus through the school and have caught it, putting our own families at risk. This is a major result of lack of contact tracing and lack of proper precautions. Remote learning would help to protect every citizen of Porter County.
