The S.G.R project that was started in Kenya came with mixed reactions. Environmental conservationists were against the plan by the Government of Kenya to allow the route through National parks as it would have interfered with wild animals by causing a migration, death of the animals by the locomotives and human encroachment into the sanctuaries

The Government went ahead and promised that measures were to be taken to ensure minimal, or no interference at all with the wild animals. But reports have come up that buffaloes and Lions have already been killed from being knocked down by the locomotives. Moreover, there is open discrimination where the Local employees have been segregated by the Chinese colleagues who don't mingle freely with them, and actually look down at them as mare servants of a lower class, even punishing The black employees if they protested over mistreatment, e.g. workload.

The initial plan where The Chinese were to pass on their techniques to the locals have been quashed as even more Chinese laborers are flown into the country to take up simple jobs that locals can do, leaving even Kenyans engineers to do simple jobs with poor pay. The Chinese have resorted to putting up signs all over workstations in their language, limiting the Kenyan workers ability to do trouble shooting just to take control of everything that goes on, so as to remain the only people who can keep stations running for as long as they can, for their own economic relevance and advantage.

Even the local trained locomotive drivers are now kept to act as support drivers, the Chinese running the locomotives on their own.. All this must stop if Kenya wants to get value for their money. And now that the Kenyan Members of Parliament cannot see all this going wrong, we must compel them to act.
