Palmview: Keep City Elections in November

Palmview: Keep City Elections in November

Mayor Ricardo Villarreal, Mayor ProTeam JL Perez, Councilwoman Alexandra Flores and Councilman Arlando Nacianceno just voted to move the City elections to May instead of November.
The reasoning for the date change is said to be because they want the citizens to focus on the city elections only. There is absolutely no need for this change, and this measure was suspiciously added to the agenda at the last minute. We believe this to be a veiled attempt at trying to control, subvert and manipulate the elections. No surveys were conducted, no meetings were held and not an ounce of feedback was given to indicate that this change of date was needed, warranted or even desired.
Furthermore, there is ample research indicating that having elections in November increases voter turnout, reduces election costs, and in a survey done 70% of people said that they prefer having elections combined. The citizens of Palmview should have been consulted before our elected leaders made their brash and highly biased decision. We ask that you sign our petition, asking that the City of Palmview keep the elections in November and that they start consulting with their constituents before making changes that affect them.
