Effective Leadership in Our City - North Royalton
November 19, 2019 – Letter to the Editor from Dan Langshaw to Cleveland.com and The Post
“I want to thank all of my residents for recently on Nov. 5 electing me to serve another two-year term on City Council. I am excited as a senior leader to use my experience and energy to work with my newly elected colleagues on council and the mayor to do some exciting new things to move our city forward even more.”
What happened Mr. Langshaw?
- You were given a fresh new council to lead (most, if not all, you endorsed or supported) but you constantly mention after you quit that you want to now “lead a NEW City Council MAJORITY for a BETTER Ward 3 & North Royalton in 2021.” If you are elected and some of your preferred new candidates are not, how would you effectively work with the 'old' members of council to move our City forward? Would you quit on us again?
- You state you are a “Certified Mediator” and have to wonder why a “Certified Mediator” needs a ‘new’, new council to move the City forward.
- You indicate you want to “Introduce legislation for a city code of ethics ordinance to make city government more professional, less political, …” We like this concept and are curious what the punishment would be if a council member threatened the employment of a city employee and pledged to disrupt the day-to-day operations of our city government?
- You claim you will “Make the city more business friendly to retain existing businesses, attract new ones …” Yet your posts on social media did not encourage this concept of the old with the new. In fact, you were pitting one small, family business in our community against another small, family business in our community all in the name of ‘city politics.’ Doesn’t sound like this approach is “less political” or “friendly”.
- We have noticed a disturbing trend on how you handle difficult questions posed to you or if you do not agree with someone else’s opinion. You label others as ‘rubber stamps’ or ‘anti-business’ and then you proceed to block these individuals from communicating their concerns or voicing their opinions so that you can ‘control’ the dialogue with ease. How will you equally represent your constituents if some are not permitted to view your posts or comments let alone voice their concerns on these pages or posts? Are you truly accessible to all or only to those that agree with all your opinions and proposals? Again, as a ‘Certified Mediator’, we expect better conduct.
- Finally, we have also noticed another disturbing trend in your posts and campaign literature. You continue to speak about “dirty politics” and make some very significant accusations against many in our community. Your most recent post of September 25, 2021 reads “attacks against me and my family.” You have also mentioned “voter intimidation” repeatedly and even asked for those willing to testify to come forward. Many are intimidated by you and your actions if they disagree with you. Mr. Langshaw – we feel the voters should know if you plan on suing the City again and request proof of the severe accusations you continue to make. Or will the Court again decide that “other than suspicion and speculation, Langshaw offers no evidence.”? Your first amendment rights do not protect you from libel or slander.
These are not questions or concerns the residents of Ward 3 or the citizens of the City of North Royalton should be asking a candidate for our City Council. We deserve and expect better. Seems your qualifications may be better suited to run a political campaign or become a philanthropist and not as a representative for our voices or for our City.
