Media Advisory!!! Students left In Limbo Awaiting Gov. Cuomo’s Signature

TOMORROW, Friday, August 16, 2019 @ ABGS Middle School,  70 Greenwich Street, Hempstead, NY 11550 Hempstead Community members, and advocates for educational justice call on NY Governor Cuomo to sign critical legislation,  instead of Leaving Students in Limbo.  They stand in support of legislation presented by Assemblywoman Taylor Darling (A8403) and Senator Kevin Thomas (S06599), as they await the signature of Governor Cuomo concerning the failing School District. "We worry for the students as they prepare for yet another trying school year but the Community expects for Gov. Cuomo who is in rightful authority to serve the public, to afford justice and equal opportunity for all people including the minority children of Hempstead." Innumerable students, teachers, and advocates who have been victimized by Hempstead’s countless failures, are calling on the Governor to acknowledge and address the ways that Hempsteads broken systems of government and education continue to perpetuate institutional racism in Hempstead Schools. The community makes this call demanding the Governors immediate signature before the start of the 2019-2020 school year, and support in solidarity, for this longsuffering community. The call is also made to all community Leaders to recognize the broken, wounded nature of Hempsteads Educational system and take remedial action immediately Ultimately, we must change the Hempstead school system and restore accountability to quality education in the district. The people call an end to the days of sweeping injustices under the carpet!
