A subdivision is in the works for Mills River, near the corner of School House Road and Boylston Highway, with plans for 110 new home sites at 5824 Boylston Highway and 412 Turnpike Road.
Dubbed "Mills River Crossing," the project has been reviewed by the Town of Mills River Technical Review Committee, and must still go through Planning Board approval before it moves forward.
Mills River is a lovely rural and Agricultural community. The citizens of Mills River would like to keep it that way. In addition to preserving the natural beauty and tradition of our town, our property values hinge largely on the short drive time to Asheville. If our section of Route 280 is built up to look like the Arden section, with traffic lights, low speed limit is and unusual traffic patterns, we will lose that proximity and with it devalue our property. If we had wanted to live in Arden, we would not live here.
Growth for the area is inevitable, but we need smart growth that will preserve the beauty and charm of our small farm community as well as our investments.
