Beat Air Pollution by Bhamla Foundation

Citizens of Mother Nature,

Our environment of India needs our help. If we don’t make massive changes to our
behavior in the next few years we most likely will be fighting for air, more than
anything else, as there simply will not be enough clean air for all of us. Our land will
become a massive gas chamber. When suffocation and incurable deceases will
break down our systems we won’t have anyone else to blame but ourselves.
Did you know that at least 140 million people breathe air 10 times or more over the
WHO safe limit? 13 of the world’s 20 cities with the highest annual levels of air
pollution are in India.

Air pollution in India is a serious issue, ranking higher than smoking, high blood
pressure, child and maternal malnutrition, and risk factors for diabetes.
In urban areas, most emissions come from vehicles and industry, whereas in rural
areas, much of the pollution stems from biomass burning for cooking and keeping
warm. In autumn and winter months, large scale crop residue burning in agriculture
fields – a low cost alternative to mechanical tilling – is a major source of smoke,
smog and particulate pollution.

Air pollution increases the risk of heart diseases, causes allergies, bronchitis,
asthma, contributes to the premature deaths of 2 million Indians every year, and is
also responsible for causing mental health issues, including depression.
A 2013 study on non-smokers has found that Indians have 30% lower lung function
compared to Europeans. So, friends, this is something serious!
We must stand together and pledge to do everything that’s possible in our hands to
reduce air pollution and in doing so make sure it becomes part of our lifestyle. Or it
will turn against us quite quickly.

By signing this petition, you pledge to support these 10 commandments:
1. Conserve energy - at home, at work, everywhere.
2. Reduce the amount of burnt waste and find ways to recycle instead.
3. Carpool, use public transportation, bike, or combine errands and reduce trips,
4. Walk whenever possible.
5. Look for the ENERGY STAR label when buying home or office equipment.
6. Follow gasoline refueling instructions for efficient vapor recovery, being careful
not to spill fuel and always tightening your gas cap securely. Consider buying
“spill-proof” portable gasoline containers.
7. Use environmentally safe paints and cleaning products whenever possible.
8. Consider using gas logs instead of wood.
9. Keep the body well hydrated to remove toxins from the lungs.
10. Surround yourself with greenery at home and at work. Plant trees instead of cutting them!

Consider turning to technology and science - many countries have already
incorporated air purifiers and air- cleaning units, green roofs at home and work

According to a research one square meter of green roof removes about 100 grams
of carbon dioxide and harmful pollutants per year, the equivalent pollution of an
average car for an entire year.

The more people will hear it the more awareness will be spread about the air
pollution threat. #HawaAaneDe song and campaign was created together with
Bhamla Foundation in support of Ministry of Environment and United Nations and
have drawn many celebrities to support the cause. As you see the peril is drawing
closer. It is no longer just an idea but a reality. And every theory about Global
warming is slowly coming true. Spread it out, stream it and groove to it. Clean air is
our right!

And join the movement on World Environment Day 2019 on 5th of June, Carter Road, Bandra West, Mumbai.
