Protect the Old Ship Church Parish House property

Protect the Old Ship Church Parish House property
Why this petition matters
Built in 1867, the Old Ship Church Parish House (known historically as the Thomas F. Whiton House) is an architecturally significant home located at 107 Main Street in Hingham, MA. In recent years, it has been neglected and is now in severe need of restoration. It is currently under agreement to be sold to a property development company. Protect Historic Hingham supports efforts to revitalize the Parish House within the existing zoning and historical requirements for this local and federal historic district and to preserve its iconic character. We also urge caution in the related plan to construct a new parish house adjacent to the Old Ship Church Meetinghouse, which raises its own significant preservation issues for the Church property, the burial grounds that border it, and the historic district as a whole.
Please join Protect Historic Hingham and ensure that the Old Ship Church Parish House and its surrounding area will be preserved.
