There is a crosswalk located at the intersection of 119th and Meadow Sweet Lane. This crosswalk allows residents to cross 119th to and from the Thomas Reservoir recreation area. A pedestrian must cross 6 lanes of traffic (1 southbound merge lane, 1 southbound lane of travel, 1 northbound left hand turn lane, 2 northbound lanes of travel, and 1 northbound right hand turn lane) to get across the street. The posted speed limit is 35 mph. The crosswalk as it is currently is poorly marked and pedestrian traffic is not readily visible to drivers. This is a liability to pedestrians, drivers, and the City of Erie.
The citizens of Erie Colorado request that Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon crossing lights be installed at this intersection as well as having the crosswalk repainted with high visibility, reflective paint. These actions will serve to alert drivers to the presence of pedestrian traffic, increase the safety of the intersection for pedestrians and drivers, and decreased the liability to the City of Erie.
