As city officials skulk around in the dead of night saving all of us from the sight of Confederate monuments and as the specter of a GOP Convention looms over an otherwise idyllic summer, I can’t help but fear that our elected representatives are overlooking an overarching reality; our city, Jacksonville, is named after, I dare say, a slave owner.  I urge our busybody mayor and Republican big shot to use his new-found small business destroying lockdown powers by proclamation to change the name of our fair city to Sunshine Gateway with the tag line, The Future Is Bright Here.  Following that, I will urge governor busybody Ronald Dion DeSantis to remove the names of all saints from our cities and counties in deference to the separation of church and state requirements adopted as law in the United States in 1791.  It’s high time.
