Oppose Easton’s Xenophobic Board of Finance Official and Demand Better for Our Community

Oppose Easton’s Xenophobic Board of Finance Official and Demand Better for Our Community

The Issue

Easton is a tight-knit community. Inclusion defines us. We oppose the opinions of Easton’s Board of Finance member, Michael Kot, in this April 29 letter to the “Connecticut Post”, on the grounds that they increase fear and put members of our community at risk. Mr. Kot needs to be held accountable; we demand his resignation.

Please sign this petition to show that discrimination from any elected official will not be tolerated in Easton. We are a welcoming community dedicated to safety and common decency, and we expect our public officials to uphold these most basic ideals. It is obvious that Mr. Kot cannot make impartial decisions in the best interest and safety of all Easton residents. We stand firm in our belief that Mr. Kot has shown himself as someone who is unable to represent the best interests of all our citizens, and he should not be in a position deciding who gets what services in our town.

Xenophobia is unacceptable, and we refuse to see it normalized. Times like these remind us that we must address hate and bias head-on, so they don’t work their way into our schools, businesses, or town government. Mr. Kot’s behavior shows a lack of respect for the people that he serves. We want to make it clear that Easton, as a town, does not agree with his sentiments. It is for this reason that we formally seek his resignation from position on the Board of Finance.his position on the Board of Finance.
