According to Census 2011, the proportion of rural households defecating in the open in Rajasthan is 80%. This is an alarmingly high number, which needs your immediate attention. there are still about 73% in rural and 14.2% in urban areas that do not have any latrine facility. Due to this, 66% of rural households in the state are still contributing to open defecation. The figures for urban areas stand at 12.2%.
Mass open defecation has been linked to the spread of infectious diseases, poor health among children, and even deaths.
Toilet building is only the first step towards achieving total cleanliness. We need to eradicate open defecation that causes several diseases and hurts public hygiene.
