Citibank does not allow extensions on student loans, nor do they offer payment plans that work with the financial budgets of their customers. A fixed payment is required, which may not be affordable for everyone. Getting out of debt is important, but it shouldn't drive people destitute while they try to establish a career.
In one month after finishing my graduate school requirements (before even receiving my diploma), my Citibank loan is no longer deferred, and I must start payments.
I don't want to be in debt forever... I want to be paying off my loans ASAP; however, my payment is $370 per month, until all $40,000 of it is paid off. In addition to my Citibank student loans I have Sallie Mae, and federal loans to pay.
Without a well paying full-time job, a fixed payment of $370 is exhorbitantly high. I know I'm not the only one being forced to pay a ridiculously high amount per month.
Let's work to change this system and require student loan companies to create manageable payment plans.
