Cineplex (Canada) should stop screenings of "The Kashmir Files"
"The Kashmir Files" Bollywood (Indian) film is a piece of anti-Muslim propaganda that tries to vilify not only all Kashmir Muslims, but all Indian Muslims. While trying to depict the plight of Kashmiri Pundit Hindus who were ethnically cleansed from the Kashmir Valley, the film has completely overlooked the many more thousands of Kashmiri Muslims who have been either killed by the Indian state army or by Kashmiri militant separatist groups. In fact, more Kashmiri Muslims have fled Kashmir since the insurgency began in 1989/1990 than have Kashmiri Hindus. In "The Kashmir Files" film, there is not one single good Muslim character. Every Muslim is depicted as demonic, fanatic, and ready to kill Hindu civilians. Even Muslim children are portrayed as fanatic devils. Washington Post Rana Ayyub, an Indian Muslim, watched this film in a theatre in India and she was told by audience members to go to Pakistan. People have been chanting anti-Muslim slogans in theatres screening this film all over India. In one case, a Hindu man stood up in a cinema and begged the men in the audience to marry Muslim girls, so as to end the Muslim population in India. This film has been given a tax-cut by the Hindu right-wing BJP government in India which is encouraging people to go and watch this film. The BJP Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has been accused of fanning anti-Muslim rioting in Gujurat while he was the Chief Minister of Gujurat in the early 2000s. This film is only meant to spark communalism, sectarianism, and anti-Muslim bigotry.
