Keep all the bathrooms unlocked and open throughout the day at Baltimore City College
At City College there is one girls bathroom and one boys bathroom per floor, with 3 floors as well as the basement level. For reasons withheld from us students here at City, the school has been closing all bathrooms except for the ones located on the first floor almost every day for weeks. This causes students to lose valuable educational time because they are forced to walk farther to use the bathroom and wait in long lines during class and in between periods. This issue also disproportionately affects those assigned female at birth with menstrual cycles who do not have immediate access to the bathroom at all times. Another impact of only having the single bathroom open is there is almost always little to no toilet paper, soap and paper towels. This is unsafe in another aspect of the spread of Covid-19 in our school. Also, because so many people are forced to use one singular bathroom, it makes it harder to follow social distancing guidelines. There have been school wide complaints from hundreds of students here at city about the bathroom closings because it is plain unfair.
Us students here at City demand the reopening of all our bathrooms every day every week. It is unfair to students to not be offered access to extremely basic hygienic and health necessities such as soap, water, and toilet paper, and we want to see better from our school of City College.
