Problem
The Over-The-Rhine Senior Center has been in operation for over 30 years, serving thousands of seniors with low incomes with warm meals, a safe space, comradery, and community. For many of these seniors it is the only place they have to go and have a warm meal. Due to funding cuts from the City of Cincinnati and United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the Cincinnati Area Senior Services (CASS) who operates the Center announced they will close the doors of the Center at 1720 Race Street Cincinnati, Ohio on November 28th. While an alternative location has been generously offered by the Church of Our Savior on Hollister Street, this new location would be far less accessible, less central, and has fewer amenities.

Solution
The City of Cincinnati, the Hamilton County Commissioners, the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, and Cincinnati Area Senior Services (CASS), and any other party interested in helping, must identify a funding solution to not only save the Over-The-Rhine Senior Center, but to maintain it at its current location. Keeping it at its current location is critically important, especially in the broader context of so many social services being dislocated from this historic downtown neighborhood. It is one of the few remaining downtown spaces serving people of low incomes. Cincinnati leaders have made a commitment to address the well documented, widely publicized, and unacceptably high poverty rates of our city. Saving this program in its current location is an important way to make good on that commitment. And, its simply the right thing to do.
