We urge our leaders to prohibit developers in Mt. Lookout from subdividing property and building multiple homes on land where one house once stood, by changing zoning laws and removing tax abatements for these developments.

A concerning practice of aggressive redevelopment is becoming prevalent in Mt. Lookout. Real estate developers have begun buying homes sitting on large lots of property, razing the historic homes that sit on those lots, subdividing the lots and building multiple homes where the one home once sat. This practice is being carried out without any notice to the neighborhood or any opportunity for concerned citizens to comment. Furthermore, the newly built houses are receiving substantial tax abatements of 15 years or more. The subdividing of lots and placement of multiple large homes on small plots of land is contrary to the character of Mt. Lookout, and we wish to see the practice stopped.
