We would like to have chickens within city limits in Cimarron KS. Currently the law states that any fowl raised for meat or it’s eggs is not allowed with in city limits. Surrounding communities allow chickens with certain stipulations. Chickens in home gardens have many benefits. First, they make very friendly and educational pets for children and families, everyone can learn about where food comes from and what it takes to produce food. Secondly, having chickens gives families food security, when supply chains and other economic factors go haywire families can still have some basic food staples.  Third, often backyard eggs are healthier than store bought eggs. Fourth, chickens help keep pests down by eating several different kinds of bugs. Fifth, they help with waste, chickens can eat lots of different kitchen scraps. Lastly, they can help produce some Amazon compost to help in peoples gardens. There are so many benefits for people, and communities. The few drawbacks can be dealt with in very practical and efficient ways. Noise is a frequent complaint. Hens tend to not be very noisy, roosters are often the culprit and many towns make it illegal to have roosters to deal with this issues. Smell is is another issue, most cities have sanitation requirements for chicken coops. Chickens bring so many positives and the issues are so easily avoided. Please consider allowing chickens in our community.
