Please sign this petition to defer the increase in rents for Sligo county council tenants.

This year has been quite a struggle for us, and with the Christmas season upon us this rent increase will only add to the strife that people in Sligo are going through.

Sligo county council tenant's rent increase for 2020 was deferred because of the pandemic and with the virus still present,  it is not justified the increase now for 2021. 

The move by the executive to postpone the increase this year is welcomed and we hope the Chief Executive would empathise  with Sligo county council tenants at this time and defer the rent increase.

In Sligo there are in excess of 3,000 tenants including those availing of the IIAP and RAS schemes. Given the unprecedented situation with the Covid-19 pandemic, and the fact that central government is picking up the tab for commercial rates, there can be no rationalisation for increasing the rent of hard pressed council tenants.
