Hawkins is a math teacher at Spencer County High School, a school located in Spencer County, Kentucky. Two days after the Floridian school shooting of 2018, Hawkins posted a video on YouTube titled "I Could Have Been A School Shooter". Within Hawkins explained his troubled past as a student and blamed the school system for its rapid destabilization of students and as the cause of mental health problems within students.
After posting the video, Hawkins was notified that his contract would not be renewed. Adams, Spencer County School's superintendent, stated that the video was not the reason for the termination.
Hawkins expressing his views are not grounds for termination in a government funded institution - such termination is a violation of his First Amendment Rights and are a gross example of the injustices and inaction displayed by our education system.
Petitioning Chuck Adams, superintendent of Spencer County Schools, to renew Hawkins' contract and to shift focus to the issues that plague American schools - to lead by example - and working towards solutions.
