The students of California High School feel that the administration denying access to our student parking lot is an extreme inconvenience and is a concern for the safety of the students. As of right now, admin is only allowing all 3000 students to stay in our small quad, where there is limited seating forcing many students to eat on the floor. This poses a question about safety since covid and now monkeypox are viruses that are easily transmittable when this amount of students are confined to a small area. Allowing the students who drive to be able to spend their breaks in their cars lowers the risk of a widespread outbreak and creates a more safe environment. I have been personally affected by these new restrictions. Multiple people in my friend group have gotten covid solely from the first week of school. This makes myself and others scared to come to school under these circumstances. We have attempted to voice our concerns directly to administration resulting in them disregarding us, creating a larger divide between the admin and students, making us feel unsafe. Cal High should be a place where we look forward to come to school not only to learn but be with friends and feel comfortable. We understand that being allowed in the parking lot is a privilege, we just want admin to hear our concerns and come to a compromise.
