Expansion of covid related subsidies to new businesses

0 have signed. Let’s get to 2,500!

Hi there,

My name is Shaunt Tchakmak and i own and operate The Oud & the Fuzz located at 21 Kensington Ave.

As you are aware, Toronto has gone into lockdown and mandated businesses like mine to close, In conjunction to the lockdown, applications for subsidies were also released.

After doing some digging, contacting the CRA and my federal MP's office, it was made clear to me that any businesses that began operation after March of 2020 is not eligible to apply for relief.

I signed my lease to open my business in January of 2020 expecting to open in March. I was mandated to shut down then and opened my business in June of 2020 when patios were allowed to open. Since, i have worked tirelessly to contribute to the community and the economy. Now, we are mandated to shut down once again and are left with ZERO assistance.

I received word from Freelands office that there is an effort in place to reassess the guidelines of the applications. I need to make as much noise about this as possible and ensure that the government feels some sort of pressure to follow through with expanding these guidelines to new businesses.

If there is anything that you can do to help us with putting this pressure on the government we would greatly appreciate it.

Please see this article that was just released about our business which just highlights the importance of small businesses during this time.
