Have BC Medical Services Plan cover Dental Services

Currently in British Columbia our Medical Services Plan covers our health needs. A notable omission from the coverage is Dental Care.

It has been established that poor Dental Health can affect other aspects of your general health causing secondary issues that must be addressed by our health system. While dental services are widely available in our province, they are only available to those that can afford them or are covered by health insurance. Emergency dental services are available to those who are on assistance, but this only cover certain procedures which are not restorative. This leaves our poorest citizens with missing teeth, which will likely affect their future health.

People who are not on assistance or do not have the means or insurance are forced to pay out of pocket for dental services. This leaves our working poor unable to provide themselves with proper dental care.

I call upon BC's MLA's and our Premiere to visibly work towards providing Full Dental Care as part of our Medical Services Plan.

Note: Full dental care should include at a minimum: cleaning/maintenance, fillings, extractions, crowns, bridges, dentures, and other restorative procedures. Additionally, there should be subsidies for braces and other orthodontics that can impact future oral health.
