Let’s get straight to the point! An email recently sent out by the president of Christopher Newport University mentions that classes will begin two weeks later than its expected date: August 17, 2020. Without a replacement of online classes, that means students will not receive two weeks of education that we will be expected to pay for within the next couple of weeks.
Plans were placed before this new change to have students not return to campus after Thanksgiving break, so our class time was already shortened. We are missing out on approximately 3 weeks of classes.
CNU’s tuition for full time students is approximately $7462. When divided by 14 (the approximate number of weeks from August 17 - November 26), the total is $533. This means that families and students are spending $1,066 that is not going into use. And in these hard times, this money can be spent on other necessities such as bills, food, and much more.
I would like to state that these numbers are just a rough estimate and are not 100% accurate. But based on these simple, hypothetical calculations alone, it can be concluded that there is money being spent that is not benefiting our students.

Don’t get me wrong, I agree that this was the best decision for our CNU family with the current rise of COVID-19 in the Hampton Roads area. However, students should be reimbursed this money, or have the option to use it as credit for future terms!
