Great Berry Resisents started this petition to christopher.allen@members.basildon.gov.uk

The residents at 111 Berry Lane, Langdon Hills, Basildon, Essex  have been continually driving over a raised kerb bordering Berry Lane and Berry Close, which has parking restrictions, and parking a number of vehicles on an area of open land between the two roads causing a general nuisance and danger to pedestrians. This has created an eyesore in the area for all residents and also as commuters and local residents have used this amenity land for many years and there are a number of restrictive covenants in place no parking should be taking place on this land and it should be left open and maintained forever more. A number of signs have been put on walls and trees on this land which is against covenants which is also an eyesore but the public largely disregard and continue to walk across the land between cars. Cameras have been put on the garage wall constantly scrutinising this amenity land and the larger public which we also feel also invades peoples privacy in the area. A number of residents have complained to the council and authorities but the situation is still not resolved and we are now endeavouring to seek recourse through a petition by local residents.

The attitude of the residents of 111 Berry Lane, in respect of the continual parking and moving cars on and off this land of the residents of 111 Berry Lane is making neighbours and local residents feel that they cannot enjoy the surroundings which have always been well kept and as the grass area is parked on and churned up by vehicles it now appears like a car breakers or parking lot. Residents have tried to ask the residents of 111 Berry Lane to stop parking on the land but they have ignored the requests and appear to lack any compassion for the feeling of others in the neighbourhood and community.

We feel that once this issue is resolved that people will be able to once again enjoy the area they live in and not feel that the use of land is being abused and putting pedestrians and children who play in the area at risk by driving over raised kerbs to this land. There is also the risk to oncoming vehicles of an incident where drivers would not be aware if a vehicle was going to enter the road as there is no drop kerb.

This has caused an inordinate amount of stress for my family and myself as we have to continually look at the cars parked on this land, which was once a well maintained area constantly maintained by the councils gardeners.  We are also concerned about the inherent dangers of their actions that exist at any time. A considerable period of time has been spent by both my neighbours and myself to try and resolve to no avail again which is very stressful. Residents in Berry Close have small children and are also extremely concerned about their safety with cars constantly driving over raised kerbs and across pavements.

We hope the council will review this petition and implement restrictions to parking on this land to return the area to how it used to be and mitigate any risks to the pedestrians and the wider public.
