Kalamaku'u Residents are becoming increasingly concerned with the management of the Kalamaku'u property.

The park area, the centerpiece of our neighborhood, is a growing concern to include the degraded playground equipment, benches being removed rather than fixed (which will now likely cost the community thousands of dollars), and a  mosquito infestation over the summer.

At the front of our property, trash is being dumped on a regular basis.  Whether or not it is the residents as it could have been dumped by someone who doesn't live here, why does it take so long to get removed?

Residents have witnessed lack of lawn care by the contracted landscapers to include: 1) laziness and siting around, 2) taking over 30 minutes to mow a 10x20ft area with a weed whacker, 3) trees cut down that were supposedly "dying", but yet were growing new branches, 4) plants/bushes with grass growing through them and not being kept up, 5) and coconuts reaching full maturity posing a severe injury hazard (only to be fixed after residents reported them falling). We want to understand how we can help, who is supervising the landscaper's work, and what their scope of work is contracted for so we can report issues.

Furthermore, and most importantly, the increase to our HOA fees for single family units that took recently took effect this month.  With the timing of this increase coming just after the recent addition of the construction costs, for those who couldn't afford to pay the lump sum, to our monthly HOA fees (especially when some experienced higher than expected costs with no notification), residents want to know why know how the property is being managed.  Especially if the basic maintenance of our property is not being kept up or managed, or if thousands of dollars are spent without notifying homeowners in advance.

We don't want to just point fingers, we want to have a conversation.  We want to discuss ideas to help reduce the costs of maintaining our property while maintaining the value of our community.  Most importantly, we want to be in the know, and not in the dark when it comes to how our money is being spent!  Our Ohana, our Kalamaku'u community, is our investment and we want to help protect its value!

Mahalo,

Adam Barry and the Kalamaku'u Community
