CHRISTIANS FOR COMPASSION TO REFUGEES

CHRISTIANS FOR COMPASSION TO REFUGEES
Why this petition matters

The government has just signed a multi-million pound deal with Rwanda to take in those who seek refuge and assylum in the UK. To fly such (often traumatised) people to a country with a dubious human rights record at any time would be to flout the teachings of Jesus (e.g. Matthew 5.7; 22.37f etc) and any principle of civilised behaviour. But to do so when millions are fleeing a callous dictator in Russia, on a day (Maundy Thursday) when the Passion of Christ began and we are faced by His crucifixion, confronts Christians with the need to speak out for those seeking refuge here. We must demand that the government take responsibility for those arriving at our shores and not pass them on to a poor country 7000 km away. Not to make our voices heard and speak out against inhumane treatment (realising the cost) would be akin to staying silent in Russia at this time.
