In the land of mates, physically forcing someone to participate in a handshake, in anyway, is not only wrong - It’s UnAustralian.

A handshake is a mutual agreement between two consenting people. NOT a one-way street. It’s purpose is to convey trust, equality and above all respect.

In light of some recent forced handshakes on the fire front between a politician and survivors of our worst bushfire disaster, the government needs to introduce a law banning forced handshakes in Australia.

The handshake law will ensure that everyone has the right to leave someone hanging, removing the potential to be forced into shaking the hand of someone they don’t want to in the future.

Respect should always be earned, not forced.
