Wairakei/Grahams Rds intersection: Install green right-turning arrows at traffic lights
The intersection at Wairakei & Grahams Roads was amended in late 2020 (refer https://ccc.govt.nz/the-council/haveyoursay/show/298) however this intersection remains unsafe.
We request the installation of green right-turning arrows so that cars can turn safely without running the danger of being hit by orange/red light runners coming straight through. Due to the flow of traffic, there is often no option to turn right unless you turn on an orange or red light. In the meantime, cars sit in the middle of the intersection with limited visibility due to the x-shape of the intersection.
Commenters in community social media groups have noted they feel very unsafe using this intersection and avoid it if possible, especially with young children as passengers in cars travelling to local school and early childhood centres.
As an aside, the painting of the road markings at this intersection need to be redone as they have come off and make the lanes very unclear/confusing.
The operation of the amended intersection was supposed to be reviewed within 6 months, however we have not heard further and request an urgent review now.
Thank you.
