It has come to our attention that the assistant band director’s position at Mabry Middle school has been eliminated leaving the band class with only one band director. We feel that it is imperative that this decision be immediately re-evaluated and feel that it is necessary, considering the caliber of the band program at Mabry, that the assistant band directors position be re-instated.
Just to give you some background on the Mabry band and all many the performances over the past few years that have been performed gaining the outstanding reputation not only for the school, but for the community, and Cobb County:
Mid West International Band Directors Conference-Chicago
Georgia Music Educators Conference
Music For All Southern Regional 2015
University of Georgia MidFest Featured Ensemble 2006,2009,2012,2016
Southeastern United States Band Clinic-2011, 2015
College Band Directors and National Band Association Southern Conference 2012
Georgia Music Educators Exemplary Performance Award 2015-16.
To maintain a band program of this caliber for our students and community it is imperative that two directors are teaching our children so they can achieve and maintain this level of excellence.
In sixth grade, there are 11 different instruments / curriculums to teach daily. The ability to have two teachers to divide and conquer is crucial to student success.
We as band parents strongly support the band curriculum at Mabry and would like to ask that the decision to reinstated the assistant band directors position be reconsidered immediately.
