Postpone graduation ceremonies

Postpone graduation ceremonies
Why this petition matters
During this horrible pandemic, we sympathize with those who have lost loved ones and know that tragedy far outweighs any other. While many are experiencing other types of losses like jobs, there is also a small but important group of people losing out because of COVID-19 who have been forgotten...high school seniors. I am the mother of two seniors who attend a school in the Chino Valley Unified School District. It's not only losing out on spending time with friends & teachers the last few months before going off to college, it's so much more. Its senior prom, breakfast, yearbook signings, award ceremonies, banquets, grad ditch day, grad nite and most important graduation. These students have worked hard the majority of their young lives for the past 13 years or more to finally walk across a stage in cap & gown. It's an accomplishment that is one of the biggest moments in their lives. It's one that some students had to beat the odds to achieve. While everything has been cancelled, and we understand why & the importance of health, we are asking to please consider postponing graduation ceremonies. The idea of virtual graduations have been mentioned but this will not even come close to comparing what they deserve. Many universities have heard their students voices & requests to postpone graduations instead of doing virtual ceremonies and are now doing so. We are asking you to do the same. Postpone graduation ceremonies & give these seniors back at least one thing to look forward to. Be their hero in this tragedy.
