Why this petition matters

Started by Don't Split Up the Neighborhood

The new owners of the old Tiffin Elementary School property on South Bridge Street in Chillicothe, Ohio, are trying to have the entire 7+ acre property rezoned from R-3 Residential to GI - General Industrial, one of the most permissive zoning designations in the city code.

In their proposal, the new owners outline plans to convert a small part of the rear of the property into a warehouse, but more than 60% of the Bridge Street front of the property is listed as "Future Development" with no additional plans shared at this time.

If the property is rezoned, the site could be developed into a heavy industrial site in accordance with the new GI - General Industrial zoning. Specific permitted uses named in the city code include manufacturing, packaging, truck and transfer terminals, the repair and/or servicing of industrial or commercial machinery, and firms servicing automobiles, trucks or other vehicles.

Approval of this rezoning would split the neighborhood and potentially devastate local home values, costing homeowners thousands in lost equity and causing renters to pay the price or lose their housing altogether in the coming years.

It is for these and many other reasons we, the undersigned, OBJECT to the request to rezone this property and respectfully ask both the Chillicothe Planning Commission and the Chillicothe City Council to VOTE NO on any zoning amendment in relation to this property.

Honor the promises made during the school levy campaigns - don't split up the neighborhood.
