I'm signing because I am FilAm who grew up without seeing my face or hearing the history of my heritage in children's books. It's time for publishers to step up.

I am a frequent book buyer interested in sharing books by Black authors with my child and I also want my money to go to Black authors-particularly when it’s a book about race! I am happy to buy good books about race by non-Black people, but please be more transparent about who is behind the books so we can make that decision ourselves.

I want my son to have windows and mirrors in his own book library, and to learn about other cultures and traditions than our own families.

Black stories should be being told by Black authors, not by white people.

The children's publishing industry needs to diversity its author pool to include many more Black, Latinx, and other minority writers.

As a writer and avid reader with a racially mixed family I would like to see more books written by a racially diverse community. Who better to write about life experience than those living it. Who better to help us white folks understand life from their perspective than those who have experiences to share.

It's important to give black writers their space in publishing! They deserve recognition!

As a fellow book buyer, I completely agree with this statement that the publishing industry needs to make these changes.
