Baby Safara Chloee M. Gabayan was born on April 4th, 2012. She is very lucky to have made it to her first birthday. When she was 5 months old, she was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia. She needs a new liver in order to save her life.
In the Philippines, children die every day because they are unable to pay for their surgeries upfront. The cost for a new liver for baby Safara would cost 3,000,000 - 4,000,000 Phillipine Pesos (72,000-95,000 USD).
Baby Safara's father is a tricycle driver, with daily pay of 200 Philippine pesos, just $4.71 USD per day. Her mother is a stay at home mother, taking care of Safara's 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Baby Safara is the youngest of five.
One year old baby Safara has to go to the hospital twice a month for blood transfusions, vomiting, and blood in her bowels. Her doctor suggests an emergency transplant.
Children's Hospital of Cincinnati, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh are the top three liver transplant surgery centers in the United States. It only takes on of these hospitals to save the life of baby Safara.
Dr. Mazariegos, Dr. Balistreri, and Dr. Olthoff, could you please find it in your heart to make this liver transplant happen? It is the only way for baby Safara to have the life that she deserves.
