Why this petition matters

Started by Tyra Smith

Under former President Trump's administration and his Zero-Tolerance Policy, thousands of immigrant children were separated from their families. Biden's administration is focused on reuniting the children with their families, but there are still 15,000 unaccompanied alien children in federal custody and 5,000 who are detained in Border Patrol facilities today. Currently Biden has established a Task Force that consists of applicable laws, starting with identifying all of those children. But a bill was introduced in November of 2021 to terminate the Task Force of Reunification of Families by Senator James Lankford.

The detention centers are not adequate for these children. After interviewing 60 children in El Paso, the detention centers were described as neglectful, had inadequate food, water, and sanitation. Also, the facilities had very cold temperatures and lights remained on for 24 hours a day.

We need YOUR help to raise concerns and awareness for the immigrant children that are still in the detention centers and this new rising bill that would keep them there. Our goal is to be able to send a letter to congress with our signatures explaining our concerns for this upcoming bill that was introduced and persuade them not to approve it. Biden has already started reuniting these children with their families so why change that?
