Policies to Decrease Disparity in Workspaces
Why this petition matters
As students currently exploring university applications and potential career paths, we couldn’t help but notice the excessively large disparity evident among a range of sectors, ranging from race to gender identity. Despite tackling these societal issues and discrimination for centuries, we fail to live in a society that is completely inclusive and open-minded. With certain conservative and orthodox mindsets deeply rooted in society, there is no single tangible solution to tackle inequalities. However, every small step counts. We can be the change we so often talk about.
After conducting data analysis in respect to rates of disparity evident in workspaces, it is essentially evident most work environments are non-inclusive, discriminatory, and unsafe. We intend to provide an opportunity for workplaces to increase minority group ratios. This would require an adequate portion of employees to be from minority groups, whether it's from the LGBTQIA+ community, a Hispanic or African race, or simply a woman. Certain policies would be required to be enforced in order to effectively execute these ideas. This is where the petition plays a role.
