Set up Anti-Sexual Harassment Cells in All Schools in West Bengal

Fellow citizens of my country, sexual harassment is a very serious offence, regardless of the age/gender of the victim.

There has been very strong and precise laws and guidelines against this evil in India. The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act has been a strong shield against this horrific crime.

This Act protects all women, including female students at schools.

The main problem, is that girls still face sexual harassment at such noble institutions, unfettered by any tangible means to aid them. Being minors, and often immature, most don't even inform their parents/guardians, ashamed of something they shouldn't even have known to exist at such a tender age. The few who speak up, are often intimidated into silence later. And the worst part, is that the perpetrator of such an offence may even be a teacher, one of the most esteemed professions in the world.

Therefore, I ask the Honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, to make it compulsory to set up Anti-Sexual Harassment Cells in all schools across the state.

The cells may include representatives from among the teachers, the parents, and the non-teaching staff.

Let us take the example of the government of the State of Maharashtra, which has made it a must to set up such cells in all schools, including girls-only schools across the state.

However, I also request the concerned authorities to set these cells up to combat sexual harassment against students of all genders. There isn't any difference between a 12-year old boy who hasn't reached puberty yet, who has faced such horrors, and his female classmate.

I hope that setting up of such cells will ensure speedy justice: helping the victims and investigating thoroughly (and not whimsically) the exact offence, and clearing those truly innocent of any blame.
