A few days back, a shocking incident woke up from our moral slumber with a jerk. A four-year old girl of GD Birla Centre for Education, Kolkata, was allegedly sexually assaulted by two teachers on campus. As per reports from the Telegraph (Dec 12th , 2017) a statement was recorded before a magistrate under Section 164, which is admissible in court as primary evidence.
The girl is believed to have told the police the alleged roles played by the two accused teachers. Based on her statement before the police, a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act has been started. The documents containing the statements made by the child and her parents before the magistrate are in sealed envelopes. The police will be allowed to go through the statements before they prepare the charge-sheet.
The accused duo - Abhishek Roy and Mohammad Mafisuddin, both teachers of physical training - are in police custody. However, till now no severe punishment has been meted out to the two. I urge our Respected Chief Minister Miss. Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal and Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi of India to take this matter into their own hands and arrange a fast-track court session for these perpetrators so that they get severe punishment as soon as possible. Once fear of such punishment is instilled into the minds of the people with such horrendous mentality, only then people like them will think twice before committing such a heinous act.
Not only this, in West Bengal the incidence of alleged sexual assault on children and children being forced into sex slavery is happening in many parts of the state. I came across a Facebook post (https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1973521899554516&id=1663660780540631) written by Sayani Sinha Roy where she describes these phenomena occurring across Kolkata and neighboring areas. Her post will send a shiver down your spine and make you wonder with unease how people can commit these inhumane acts. Again, I request our Respected Chief Minister Miss. Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal and Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi of India to please look into these issues and try to take some action. Please help these children from being sexually assaulted everyday and ensure that these children (most of whom have no parents) get a decent shelter, livelihood and a peaceful upbringing, be it in orphanage centers or Government institutions.
