Ashish Mani Tripathi started this petition to Chief Minister of Uttrakhand and

Pantnagar is a town and a university campus in Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand. This town is home to the first agricultural university of India which was established on 17 November 1960.

The University campus at Pantnagar is spread in an area of 12,661-acre (51.24 km2) which makes it the second-largest university in the world, in terms of contiguous area. Before 2002, the university owned16,000-acre (65 km2), out of which 3,339-acre (13.51 km2) was transferred to the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand (SIDCUL) for developing an Integrated Industrial estate, thus leaving 12,661-acre (51.24 km2) with the university. The remaining land was transferred to other industries, railways, airport, etc

Pantnagar Airport, operated by the Airports Authority of India is located on the campus, 2.5 km west of the main administrative building. It is the nearest airport to the Kumaon division and located in the middle of Haldwani and Rudrapur, the two largest cities of Kumaon

The airport was able to accommodate only small aircraft until 2008 when the length of the runway was increased to 4,500 feet to accommodate larger turboprop aircraft at a cost of ₹75 crores. In August 2015, Airport Advisory Committee said that the Airport will be developed in a cargo hub and the length of the runway will be increased from its present length of 1,372m to 1,865m

On 31 July 2020, the Pantnagar Airport was announced to be developed as the first international airport in Uttarakhand by the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat. The international airport will be constructed on around 1100 acres of University land. The airport is proposed to be expanded in two phases.

  1. The new airport is planned within the vicinity of the existing airport.
  2. The Government should develop the existing airport infrastructure without disturbing the ecology of the region.
  3. Grabbing University land for the airport is a threat to the existence of GBPUAT, which has already lost substantial piece in SIDCUL and Admin block developments.
  4. Developing the existing airport will save a huge amount of money which can be utilized in other development activities.
  5. The job opportunities planned for the new airport can be used on the existing airport.

In the end, I need your support. I urge you to sign my petition so that we can stop this unwanted and unnecessary development plan on the GBPUAT land.

Please stand with me and sign my petition
