Kimaaya Verma started this petition to Chief Minister of Telangana (K.Chandrashekar Rao) and

Rivers are the backbone of human civilization and are the most integral part of our ecosystem. They are fundamental towards our development and improvement as rivers are the major source of water for agricultural processes, drinking water, electricity, etc.

This being considered, in today's technologically advanced world majority of the population, has little to no regard for these fluvial systems. The Musi River is one such example. The River is a tributary to the Krishna River, Hyderbad stands on the banks of the Musi river,  it divides the historic old city from the new city. Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar are dams built on it, which act as a water source for Hyderabad.

The river has become a dumping ground for untreated domestic and industrial waste due to haphazard urbanization and lack of planning. Nearly 350 MLD (million liters per day) of polluted water and sewage from Hyderabad and Secunderabad is projected to seep into the river.

Many attempts have been made to clean up the river but have been ineffective. The chemical waste which enters the river from industries seeps into the ground and contaminates groundwater. The same water is consumed by people and adversely affects their health. This sort of damage devastates the area and habitats dependent on the river for their water supply and other essential services. Due to the influx of untreated industrial pollutants, the river is given the title of one of the most polluted rivers in India. Studies show that as the river moves away from the city, the water becomes cleaner. This is due to the various therapeutic methods that have been established. This demonstrates that the water is not untreatable, but needs serious action towards it.

The recent news in Karnataka, where water from residential sources was dumped into a lake, which froze, caught fire, and burned for over three days, should serve as a wake-up call to us and compel us to take prompt action. Imagine a river full of untreated industrial wastes; How would it affect the people living around the river? Can we stop it? Prevention is better than cure.

In conclusion , Honorable Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and Respected Mayor of Greater Muncipal Cooperation, I request you to devote some of your time to help make Hyderabad , a city of pearls with lovely people and a clean river.  My prayer of demand is as below ;

  1. Implement strict new rules with penalties to prohibit any waste discharge/ affluent from their premises flowing into the river . Unless this is strictly implemented , any amount of river cleaning will defeat the purpose.
  2. Implement the above with the help of surrounding citizens by involving them in Musi River cleaning. Even NGO's services maybe utilized.
  3. It will have to be a team effort of one and all in stopping discharge in Musi River.
  4. Contiunuous / periodical cleaning of the river with natural waste and weeds through various therapeutic processes and utilizing suitable equipment for river cleaning.
  5.  Creating awareness among citizens making them responsible for their service contribution for human cause in the interest of present and future generations.
  6. Lastly , any other way , as the government of may deem fit to clean the Musi river.

Thank you for your support; you can do your part for the Musi river by signing this petition and spreading the word to your friends and family.
